The location advantage of many small towns with intact town centres, numerous recreational facilities in green areas, good transport connections and attractive and still affordable housing attracts more and more people away from the metropolises. However, too often new residential neighbourhoods develop into faceless, anonymous places for commuters to sleep. With our design, we aim to create an identity-forming, vibrant home with special outdoor qualities. The simple, economical architecture enables a high-quality design of the outdoor space: Urban activities such as meeting at the playground or playing boules together in the evening are just as likely to take place here as gardening or communal apple picking, which the city cannot offer. People enjoy coming home where they know each other and where generations meet. Despite the desired densification, it is possible to propose a clear urban ensemble of six compact buildings that adopt the scale of the heterogeneous surrounding development and interconnect with the green urban quarter through generous courtyards. Inspired by the small-scale nature of the surroundings with their variety of roof shapes and orientations, the 2- to 3.5-storey building volumes are broken up by a staggered roof landscape. Low building sections along the streets correspond with the neighbouring buildings, while higher points are concentrated in the inner area of the site.
